PRE-INTERMEDIATE COURSE, 2018, CLASS 1

To begin, we talked a little about our favourite films, cities, singers etc...

Mi ciudad preferida = mi ciudad favorita
Mi deporte preferido = mi deporte favorito

We then listened to a conversation and wrote down the questions we heard ¿Cómo te llamas de apellido? – what is your surname? ¿A qué te dedicas? – What do you do? ¿En qué calle vives? – In what street do you live? = ¿Cuál es tu dirección? – what is your address? ¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre? - what do you like to do in your free time?
Some vocab that came up Parientes – relatives Falsos amigos – false friends Pregunta – question Respuesta – answer Sabroso – tasty Delicioso – Delicious
Me gusta – I like Te gusta – you like Le gusta – he/she likes
Mi amigo – my friend Tu amigo – your friend
Su amigo – her/his friend

We began by talking about our favourite films, food, sport, cities etc. Mi ciudad preferida es Roma porque tiene muchos monumentos y tengo buenos recuerdos de ella. We went on to talk about the environment – el medio ambiente. El calentamiento global – global warming Reciclar – to recycle El reciclaje – recycling Los coches eléctricos Los combustibles fósiles – fossil fuels La contaminación El cambio climático – climate change Degradar – to degrade El consumismo - consumerism


We discussed some questions… ¿Conducirías un coche eléctrico? ¿Qué podemos hacer para salvar la tierra?
We looked at an ad. Las bolsas de plástico dañan el ambiente – Plastic bags damage the enviroment Cuida lo que es de todos – take care of that which belongs to us all.

ELEMENTARY 2 COURSE, 2018, CLASS 1

In our first class we did a quick revision of what we know from other courses. We introduced ourselves to the rest of the class and we made questions about it. In the second part of the lesson, we revised a few questions about ourselves and we practiced them in pairs. Some examples below: 1.¿Qué tipo de música te gusta? - What type of music do you like? Me gustan todos los tipos de música, pero en particular me gusta la música clásica - I like all types of music, in particular I like classical music. 2.¿Qué deporte te gusta? -  What sports do you like? Me gusta mucho el tenis. Practico el tenis todos los días. También me gusta el golf. No tengo mucho tiempo para jugar al golf – I love tennis very much. I practice tennis every day. I also like golf. I don’t have much time to play golf. 3.¿Qué te gusta leer? – What do you like to read? Me gusta leer revistas y periódicos pero por la noche me gusta leer un buen libro – I like reading magazines and newspapers but at night I like reading …

BEGINNERS 2 COURSE, 2018, CLASS 1

In our first lesson of our beginners 2 course, we revised some of the contents we learnt in the previous course. We also learnt some useful expressions we put into practice during the whole class. ¿Cómo se dice…? – How do you say…? ¿Cómo se escribe…? – How do you write…? ¿Qué significa…? – What does … mean? Un momento, ¿puedes repetir? – Hold on a moment, can you repeat? Más despacio, por favor – Slower, please. Vamos a hablar… vamos a estudiar… vamos a repasar… vamos a aprender … - we are going to talk about… we are going to study… we are going to revise…. We are going to learn…
We revised some basic questions and we answered them in pairs. Then we shared our answers. ¿Cómo te llamas? – What’s your name? ¿De dónde eres? – Where are you from? ¿Dónde vives? – Where do you live? ¿Estás casado /casada? – Are you married? ¿Tienes hijos / hermanos o hermanas / nietos? – Do you have children/brothers and sisters/ grandchildren? ¿Cómo se llama tu hijo? – What’s your son’s name? ¿Cuántos años tiene tu her…

LATIN DANCE AND MUSIC: A HISTORY, WITH LOANDER AND JESÚS: FRIDAY, 26TH.

We are delighted to present a history of Latin American music and dance, this Friday the 26th of January, at 8pm in the Yeats Building.  
The talk will be given by Loander and Jesús, who have been living and teaching Latin Dance in Sligo for four years, but who are originally from Venezuela. There will be demonstrations of dance and music from South America, and as always, we will enjoy some wine and tapas after the event.
All are welcome. Admittance €6 (€4 for students and the unemployed).
Nos complace mucho presentar este viernes, 26 de enero, una presentación sobre la música y el baile de América Latina. Empieza a las 8.00 en el Edificio Yeats.
La charla será impartida por Loander y Jesús, dos venezolanos que llevan cuatro años viviendo y dando clases de Latin Dance aquí en Sligo. Habrá demostraciones de los diversos estilos del baile latino y, como siempre, podremos disfrutar de un buen vino y comer unas tapas deliciosas después de la presentación.

NEW YEAR SPANISH COURSES, BEGIN JANUARY 22ND.

Our New Year Spanish courses begin the week of January 22nd, 2018. We have courses for all levels – details below…….
Registration We ask anyone who wants to do a course with us to come to Registration and pay the course cost in full. Registration is on Thursday, January 18th, in the Yeats Building, Sligo, from 7.30pm to 9pm.
Duration and times Every course lasts 10 weeks. Every class is from 7.30pm to 8.45pm, except the Leaving Cert course (6.00pm to 7.15pm)
Location Classes take place in IT Sligo.
Prices All courses (except the Leaving Cert course) cost €130 – or €110 for students or the unemployed. The Leaving cert course costs €120.
LEVELS (from lowest level to highest)

BEGINNERS – THURSDAYS Our Beginners' course starts on Thursday, January 25th at 7.30pm. This is for those people who want to start from the very beginning.
