BEGINNERS COURSE, WEDNESDAYS, AUTUMN 2018, CLASS 1

In our first class, we introduced ourselves and we talked briefly about our knowledge of the Spanish language and culture.
We also talked about the Spanish pronunciation and we saw some examples of words with those particular pronunciations.
“ñ” in España (Spain), uña (nail), niño (child) “ll” in lluvia (rain), llave (key), llamar (call, ring) “j, g” in mujer (woman), gente (people) genio (genious) “q” in queso (cheese) que (what) “r, rr” in perro (dog) borracho (drunk), ratón (mouse) “h” in hola (hello) hielo (ice), hermano (brother) “v” in volver (go back, come back), volar (fly), ver (see) “c, z” in cien (one hundred), zapato (shoe), diez (ten) (It was also worth mentioning that we only have five sounds to the five vowels a,e,I,o,u, unlike the vowels in the English language which there are twelve sounds).

ELEMENTARY COURSE, AUTUMN 2018, CLASS 1

This week we talked about our favourite things – Mis cosas favoritas
We read about Carla and in pairs, we provided our own examples. Soy Carla y os voy a hablar de algunas de mis cosas favoritas – I am Carla and I am going to talk to you about some of my favourite things.
Mi película favorita se llama Titanic. – Mi favourite film is called Titanic. Me encanta la película porque es muy romántica, emocionante y divertida – I love the film because it is very romantic, exciting and fun. Me encantan los personajes, sobre todo la chica, Rose, representada por Kate Winslet. Es una mujer muy fuerte. – I love all the characters, especially the girl, Rose, represented by Kate Winslet. She is a very strong woman.
Mi comida preferidaes la pasta. Me encanta todo tipo de pasta, sobre todo el espagueti con salsa de tomate. – Mi favourite food is pasta. I love all types of pasta, especially espagueti with tomato sauce. La como tres o cuatro veces por semana. – I eat it three or four times a week.

BEGINNERS COURSE, TUESDAYS, AUTUMN 2018, CLASS 1

In our first class, we learnt the basic introductions and we practiced them in pairs. ¡Hola! Buenos días. ¡Hola! Buenas tardes. ¡Hola! Buenas noches. ¿Qué tal? Bien, gracias ¿Y tú? Muy bien, gracias. ¿Cómo te llamas? Me llamo Patricia, ¿ Y tú? ¿Dé donde eres? Soy de Irlanda. Soy de España. Adiós. Hasta luego. Encantado, encantada. We talked about Spanish pronunciation and we saw some examples of words with those particular pronunciations. Some vocab that came up Picante – spicy Emocionante – exciting Mido un metro ochenta – I am one metre eighty tall Medir – to measure Comida sabrosa – tasty food Saludable – healthy Cordero – lamb Una película graciosa – a funny film Tiene una voz muy buena – he has a good voice



We then went on to practice the past tense – the Pretérito AR verbs Pasar Pasé Pasaste Pasó
IR/ER verbs Comer Comí Comiste Comió
Ir: fui, fuiste, fue Hacer: hice, hiciste, hizo Tener: tuve, tuviste, tuvo Estar: estuve, estuviste, estuvo

INTERMEDIATE COURSE, AUTUMN 2018, CLASS 1

IN this class we focused on the Pretérito – the past tense in Spanish. Some irregular verbs…. Andar – anduve, anduviste, anduvo, anduvimos, anduvisteis, anduvieron Poner – puse, pusiste, puso, pusimos, pusisteis, pusieron. Componer (to compose) – compuse, compusiste, compuso, ……
We read about Carlos Gardel, an Argentinian Tango singer. Some new words…. Lujoso – luxurious El coro – the choir Componer – to compose El mito – the myth



SPANISH COURSES FOR AUTUMN; REGISTRATION SEPTEMBER 20TH.

Our Autumn Spanish courses begin the week of September 24th, 2018. We have courses for all levels - including two separate Beginners' courses to try to accommodate everyone wishing to study from the start. 

Registration We ask anyone who wants to do a course with us to come to Registration and pay the course cost in full. Registration is on Thursday, September 20th, in the Yeats Building, Sligo, from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.             
Duration and times All courses last 10 weeks. Every class is from 7.30pm to 8.45pm.
Location Classes take place in IT Sligo.
Prices All courses are €130 or €110 for students or the unemployed.
LEVELS (from lowest level to highest)

BEGINNERS – TUESDAYS  We have two Beginners' courses this year. The first begins on Tuesday September 25th at 7.30pm. This is for those people who want to start from the very beginning.
