IMPROVERS 3 COURSE, SPRING 2014, CLASS 4

We began by revising the continuous in Spanish
Está comiendo - he is eating Están bailando - they are dancing.
We then looked at reflexive verbs with the continuous Sentarse - to sit down (the 'se' tells us that the verb is reflexive) Está sentándose - he is sitting down.
We can put the reflexive pronoun - se - before or after the verb.... Está sentándose .... or.... Se está sentando.
Está afeitándose - he is shaving (or se está afeitando) Está vistiéndose - he/she is getting dressed (se está vistiendo) Está relajándose - he/she is relaxing.  (se está relajando)
We moved on to talk about television Las noticias - the news Las telenovelas - soap operas Los documentales - documentaries Las series policíacas - police series Los programas de entrevistas - chat shows Los programas de deporte - sports programmes Las comedias - comedies Los concursos - contests Los reality shows

In this lesson, we learnt the imperative form in detail. We also finished reading and translating the paragraphs about the Canary Islands. Some words did not understand:

We began by revising some useful phrases for use when enquiring about travel and transport..
¿Puede decirme....? - Can you tell me...? ¿Puedo pagar con tarjeta de crédito? - Can I pay by credit card? ¿A qué hora sale.....? - What time does it depart? ¿A qué hora llega.....? - What time does it arrive? ¿Cuánto dura el viaje? - How long does the journey take? ¿A qué hora sale el primer tren? - What time does the first train leave? ............................el segundo tren? - .....................the second train ............................el tercer tren? - ..........................the third train
We then went on to revise the Continuous in Spanish. We need the verb Estar plus the gerund - "ando" or "iendo" Está comiendo - he/she is eating Está nadando - he/she is swimming Estamos aprendiendo - we are learning.

To warm up, we came up with three reasons why we like the mountains and why we like the beach. Some of the answers were: Me gusta la playa porque puedo tomar el sol – I like the beach because I can sunbathe Me gusta la montaña porque me gusta escalar – I like the mountains because I like climbing Me gusta la playa porque me gusta nadar en el mar – I like the beach because i like swimming in the sea Me gusta la montaña porque no me gusta el calor – I like the mountains because I don’t like heat
We also talked about the Canary Islands and we worked on the Imperative form. We read the first four articles and we commented on them.
