ARTIST MANUEL 'MANOLO' MENDEZ - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH
On Friday, November 9th, the
Sligo Spanish Society welcomes Manuel ´Manolo´ Mendez, an artist, musician and
graphic designer based in Barcelona who is in love with Irish music, culture
and landscapes. The event begins at 8pm in the Yeats Building, Sligo.
Originally from the city of Linares in the
Andalusian province of Jaén, Spain, Manuel was born in 1953 and has spent a
lifetime drawing, studying and teaching art, playing music of many different
genres and designing for merchandise. Working primarily with oil on canvas, he
has exhibited his work in Barcelona and elsewhere in Catalunya approximately
every second year since 1995.
His work is inspired by landscapes and
streetscapes from both Ireland and Spain, in which he displays a keen
understanding of how to capture light, shade, water and reflections.
He is delighted to be making his Irish
exhibition ´debut´ in Sligo as part of the 9 Walls Exhibition in the Hyde
Bridge Gallery and also to be afforded the opportunity to present his work and
life story to the Sligo Spanish Society. The evening will include music, song
and a snapshot of Manuel´s artwork and designs. Admission is €7 (€5 concession) and includes
wine and tapas.
