INTERMEDIATE COURSE, AUTUMN 2018, CLASS 7


In this class we revised some words connected with Halloween
Una lápida – a gravestone
Una calavera – a skull
Un búho – an owl
Un murciélago – a bat
Telarañas – spider webs

We learned some words connected with fear and terror
Frightened – asustado
Frightening – espantoso, aterrador
A fright – un susto
Fear – miedo

We then learned some vocab which was to come up in a text we read
Asustaniños – the bogey man, child frighteners
Patas de chivo – goat´s feet
Peludo – hairy
Euskera – the Basque language
Colmillos – fangs



We then looked at some of the differences between the Pretérito and the Imperfecto
Pretérito – defined length of time – estuve en la piscina por una hora ayer
Imperfecto – length of time not defined – estaba en la piscina ayer cuando empezó a llover

Pretérito – single, complete actions, to narrate the actions of a story – Me levanté, desayuné y salí.
Imperfecto – background events or situations – Cuando me levanté, el sol brillaba y los pájaros cantaban.
