ELEMENTARY COURSE, SPRING 2018, CLASS 4


To start with, the students were given pictures and were asked to describe them and give their opinions about what they could and couldn’t see. Here are some examples.

Los Beatles – Son los Beatles. Son cuatro cantantes y son de Liverpool. Están casados. Cantan sus propias canciones. Tocan instrumentos musicales. Ringo toca la batería y los otros tocan las guitarras. Son muy famosos. Yo creo que están cansados y están enfadados. No están contentos. Ringo tiene miedo y John está triste.

(They are The Beatles. They are four singers and they’re from Liverpool. They are married. They sing their own songs. They play instruments. Ringo plays the drums and the others play the guitars. They are very famous. I think that they are tired and they are angry. They aren’t happy. Ringo is scared and John is sad).

Beyoncé – Se llama Beyoncé. Es una mujer. Es norteamericana y está casada. Tiene una hija. Es cantante. Yo creo que no está estresada. Ella está contenta. Yo creo que no tiene miedo. Parece que está relajada.

(Her name is Beyoncé. She’s a woman. She’s from the USA and she’s married. She has a daughter. She’s a singer. I don’t think she’s stressed. She’s happy. I don’t think she’s scared. She seems to be relaxed).

The children – Son dos niños. Son hermanos y son del sur de España. Tienen el pelo negro. Yo creo que tienen sueño. Pienso que están cansados y enfadados. Pienso que no están contentos. En mi opinión, tienen miedo.
(They are two children. They are siblings and they are from the south of Spain. They have dark hair. I think they are sleepy. I think they are tired and angry. I think they are not happy. In my opinion they are scared).
The man – Es un hombre. Es de España y está trabajando en una oficina. Está hablando por teléfono. Su novia le ha dejado. Tiene mala suerte. Pienso que está enfadado. No está contento. También pienso que está triste y está estresado.
(He is a man. He’s from Spain and he’s working in an office. He’s talking on the phone. Her girlfriend has dumped him. He has bad luck. I think he’s angry. He’s not happy. I also think that he’s sad and he’s stressed)

In the second part of the lesson, we started with the topic of means of transport and we learnt its basic vocabulary:
Los medios de transporte – means of transport
Un avión – a plane
Un tren – a train
Un coche – a car
El equipaje – the luggage
Un barco – a ship
Una barca – a boat
Una bicicleta – a bike
Un autobús – a bus
La maleta – the suitcase
Una parada de autobús – a bus stop
Una parada de taxis – a taxi stop

We matched the words with their synonym in English
Un vuelo – a flight
Un billete de ida a vuelta – a return ticket
Un retraso – a delay
El aeropuerto – the airport
Facturación – check in
Salidas – departures
El conductor – the driver
Viajar – to travel
Llegadas – arrivals
Hacer las maletas – to pack the bags
La puerta – the door/the gate
La estación de trenes – the train station
Un billete – a ticket
Un viaje – a journey
La tarjeta de embarque – the boarding pass
El andén – the platform
Hacer transbordo – to change trains
