We looked again at some words connected to bullfighting......

El picador -the man on the horse who helps the torero
El torero = el matador
La espada – the sword
Los cuernos – horns

We listened again to an interview with Mario Vargas Llosa about bullfighting (link in last post)
A nadie se le obliga que vaya a los toros – No one is forced to go to a bullfight

Gozar = disfrutar – to enjoy
una destreza - a skill
una tradición arraigada - a deeply rooted tradition




We also had some words related to bulls
Los toros
Torear – fight, dodge, tease
Taurino – adjective related to bulls
El ambito taurino – the world of bullfighting
El torero = el toreador

We then looked at some expressions commonly used in Spanish that come from bullfighting on p.20
Cada toro tiene su lidia – every dog has its day
Agarrar el toro por los cuernos – to grab the bull by the horns
Salir por la puerta grande – to have great success
Crecerse con el castigo – to grow to meet a challenge
La hora de la verdad – the critical momento
Recibir una cornada – to take a hit
Estar de capa caída - to be a little sad, in trouble, 
A mí no me torea nadie - no-one messes with me

we then went on to talk about shopping on p.10
regatear - to haggle
un monedero - a wallet/purse
CDs pirata - pirate CDs
una ganga - a bargain
