BEGINNERS COURSE, AUTUMN 2017, CLASS 3

This week we finished the topic of the family and we revised what we learnt last week.
¿Estás casado? – Are you married? (If we ask a man if he’s married).
Sí, estoy casado, ¿y tú? – Yes, I am, and you?
¿Estás casada? – Are you married? (If we ask a woman if she’s married).
No estoy casada, pero tengo novio / novia – No, I’m not married but I have a boyfriend / girlfriend.

We listened to the second conversation on page 5:
2. Luis es el padre de Javier y Yolanda. Alicia es la madre de Yolanda y Javier y la mujer de Luis. – Luis is Javier’s and Yolanda’s father. Alicia is Yolanda’s and Javier’s mother and she is also Luis’s wife.

In pairs, we practised some questions about the family. Some examples below:
1)¿Tienes hermanos? ¿Cómo se llaman? – Do you have any brothers or sisters? What are their names?
Sí, tengo dos hermanos. Se llaman Silvia y Andrés – Yes I have two siblings (one brother and one sister). Their names are Silvia and Andrés.
2)¿Cuántos años tiene tu marido? – What age is your husband?
Tiene treinta y cinco años – He is 35 years old.
3.¿Cuántos años tienen tus hermanos? – What age are your brother and your sister?
Tienen veintiocho y cuarenta y tres años – They are 28 and 43 years old.

In the second part of our class, we started the topic of countries and nationalities: Los países y las nacionalidades.
We learnt some countries and nationalities in Spanish:
España – Spain;      español (masc) española (fem) – Spanish
Irlanda – Ireland;   irlandés (masc) irlandesa (fem) – Irish
Inglaterra – England;        inglés (masc) inglesa (fem) – English
Francia – France;   francés (masc) francesa (fem) – French
¿De dónde eres? – Where are you from?
Yo soy de España – I am from Spain.
¿De dónde es? – Where is she/he from?
¿Cuál es la nacionalidad de …? – What is the nationality of….?
Es de Irlanda - He /she is from Ireland.
