BEGINNERS COURSE, SPRING 2017, CLASS 4

We began by revising jobs

¿Qué haces? - What do you do?
Soy enfermera en la comunidad - I am a community nurse
Soy funcionaria - I am a civil servant
Soy ingeniero - I am an engineer
Soy profesora - I am a teacher

We also looked at the verb Ser - To be

(Yo) soy - I am
(Tú) eres - you are
(él/ella) es - he/she is

The words in brackets are pronouns - I, you, he, she - they are not necessary in Spanish, they are optional

We then went on to countries and nationalities.....

Irlanda - Ireland
irlandés - Irish (for a man)
irlandesa - Irish (for a woman)

España - Spain, español - Spanish (masc), española - Spanish (fem)
Inglaterra - England, inglés - English (masc.), inglesa - English (fem)
Francia - France, francés - French (masc), francesa - French (fem)
Alemania - Germany, alemán - German (masc), alemana - German (fem)
Los Estados Unidos - the United States, norteamericano/a - American
Escocia - Scotland, escosés/ escocesa - Scottish



Lenguas - languages
¿Hablas español? - Do you speak Spanish?
Hablo un poco - I speak a little

We then looked at how to tell the time....

¿Qué hora es? - what time is it?
Son las ocho - it is eight o'clock
Son las ocho y media - it is half past eight
Son las ocho y cinco - it is five past eight
Es la una - it is one o'clock
