BEGINNERS COURSE, 2017, CLASS 7

This week we worked on typical dialogues in the restaurant. We read and translated the dialogue on page 17 and we translated the words we did not understand:
¡oiga! – Excuse me!
¿podemos pedir? – Can we order?
¿Qué van a tomar? – What would you like to have?
Copa de vino tinto – A glass of red wine
Un agua sin gas – Still water ; un agua con gas – sparkling water
¿Quieren postre? – Will you eat a dessert?
Para mí, el helado de fresa – Strawberry ice cream for me
Para mí, sólo un café, por favor – Just a coffee for me, thanks
¿Algo más? – Anything else?
Un poco más de agua, por favor – A bit more of water, please
Y traíganos un poco más de patatas fritas.  – And bring us a bit more chips
Y la cuenta también – And the bill too.

Other words and expressions we learnt:
Un vaso de agua – a glass of water
Una caña de cerveza – a beer in a glass of the size of a half pint
Una jarra de cerveza – A jug of beer (the size of a pint)

We worked on the listening on page 18 and we translated it:
¿qué desean los señores?  / ¿qué tomarán los señores?– What would you like to eat?
A ver querida, ¿qué quieres de primer plato? – Let’s see Darling, what would you like for starters?
Sopa de pescado – Fish soup
Y el postre, ¿quieren pedir ahora? – Would you like to order a dessert now?
¿Qué clase de helados hay? – What types of ice cream do you have?
De chocolate, caramelo, vainilla y limón – Chocolate, caramel, vanilla and lemon.
¿Qué vino prefieres, tinto o blanco? – Which type of wine do you prefer, red or White?
Entonces, nos trae una botella de vino blanco seco, por favor. – So, bring us a bottle of dry White wine, please.
¿Qué nos recomienda? – What do you recommend to us?
Viña Franca tiene muy Buena reputación – Viña Franca is said to be a good wine.
Les traigo el vino en seguida – I will bring you the wine soon.
Ay, por Dios, he olvidado mi tarjeta de crédito – Oh, God, I forgot my credit card.
¿Tienes dinero? – Do you have cash?

To conclude, in pairs we created our own dialogue following the guidelines we were given in English:
-The customer asks for a table for two and the waiter says there are no free tables at the moment.
-The customer asks for the menu and the waiter creates a menu.
-The customer says he is allergic to one of the meals and the waiter says there are other options.
-The waiter says there is also a vegetarian menu.
-In the end, the customer asks for the bill. They want to pay with cash.

-Hola, quiero una mesa para dos, por favor. – Hello, a table for two, please.
-No tenemos mesas libres ahora. Un momento. – We don’t have any free tables now. One moment.
-¿Podemos ver el menu? – Can we see the menu?
-Sí, de primero tenemos sopa de marisco y ensalada; de Segundo tenemos bistec con patatas fritas y paella. – Yes, for starters we have seafood soup and salad; for the main we have bistec with chips and paella.
-Vaya, tengo alergia al marisco. ¿Hay otras opciones? – I am allergic to seafood. Are there any other options?
-Sí, tenemos sopa de verduras – Yes, we have vegetable soup.
-Perfecto. – Perfect.
-También tenemos un menú vegetariano. ¿Quiere verlo? – We also have a vegetarian menú. Would you like to see it?
-No gracias. Tomaré la sopa de verduras y el bistec con patatas fritas – No, thanks. I will have the vegetable soup and the bistec with chips.
-La cuenta, por favor. ¿Podemos pagar con efectivo? – The bill please. Can we pay with cash?
