PRE-INTERMEDIATE COURSE, 2017, CLASS 5

This week we finished the topic of housework chores – Las tareas del hogar.

We did a debate about men and women and their roles in the house and we worked on the questions on page 12. We used different expressions to give our opinion:
En mi opinión – In my opinión
Creo que – I think that
Yo opino que – My opinion is that
Desde mi punto de vista – from my point of view
Estoy de acuerdo con  - I agree with
No estoy nada de acuerdo con – I completely disagree with
Tienes razón – You are right
Estás equivocado – You are wrong
¿Los hombres ayudan suficientemente en casa? – Do men help enough at home?
Sí, los hombres ayudan mucho más que hace veinte años – Yes, men help much more than they did twenty years ago.
¿O las mujeres todavía tienen que hacer la mayoría de las tareas en casa? – Or do women still have to do most of the things at home?
Creo que en la actualidad las mujeres y los hombres comparten las tareas del hogar – I think that nowadays women and men share the housework duties.
¿Los hombres son más aptos para algunas tareas y las mujeres más aptas para otras? – Are men more apt to do some chores and the same for women?
Desde mi punto de vista, las mujeres no pueden hacer ciertas cosas por falta de fuerza – From my point of view, there are certain things women cannot do due to the lack of strength.

We worked on the text about David Beckham on page 13.
Some words or expressions we did not know:
Ha dicho que es un amante de la limpieza – He has said that he is a cleaning lover.
Centrocampista – midfielder
Además de hacer los quehaceres domésticos – In addition to doing the houseworks chores
Él suele preparar langostinos – He usually prepares large prawns.
Con verdura fresca – with fresh vegetables
Aceitunas – olives
Lo más importante para Beckham – the most important thing for him
Su carrera futbolística – his football career
Planea pasar más tiempo con su familia – He plans to spend more time with his family
Recaudar dinero – to collect money
Con fines benéficos – with charitable causes
Le encantaría ser embajador – He would like to be an Ambassador

To conclude with this topic we talked about our favourite housework chores and the ones we don’t enjoy doing. We did a brainstorming with adjectives to describe those chores:
Aburrido – boring
Un fastidio – annoying
Relajante – relaxing
Fácil – easy
Difícil – difficult
Inmenso – huge
Molesto – disagreeable
Imposible – impossible
Posible – possible
Entretenido – entertaining
Divertido – fun
Pesado – heavy
Sucio – dirty
Huele mal – it smells bad

Some examples:
Odio sacar la basura porque huele mal pero me encanta planchar porque es muy relajante – I hate taking out the rubbish because it smells bad but I love to iron because it is very relaxing.
No me gusta cortar el césped porque es muy monótono pero me gusta mucho fregar los platos mientras que veo la televisión – I don’t like to cut the grass because it is very monotonous but I like to do the washing up very much while I watch TV.
