PRE-INTERMEDIATE COURSE, 2017, CLASS 4

This week we talked about beliefs.

¿Crees en…? – Do you believe…?
…los fantasmas – the ghosts
…los videntes – the fortune tellers
…el zodiaco – horoscopes
…los extraterrestes – aliens
Creo un poco en esto – I believe a bit in this
Es imposible – it’s imposible
Es una tontería – It is nonsense
No es real – it is not real
Hay algo real en todo eso – There is something real in all this
Algunos videntes son auténticos, algunos no – Some fortune tellers are true, some are not.
Es fácil ser escéptico, pero hay cosas que no entendemos – It is easy being sceptical, but there are things that we don’t understand.

We also talked about the housework chores = las tareas de casa
Pasar la aspiradora – To hoover
Quitar el polvo – To remove the dust
Poner la mesa – to set the table
Fregar los platos – To do the washing up
Fregar el suelo – To mop the floor
Quitar la mesa – To clear the table
Limpiar la cocina – To clean the kitchen
Sacar la basura – To take out the rubbish
Cortar el césped – To cut the grass
Planchar la ropa – To iron the clothes

In pairs we talked about the household chores we like / don’t like to do.
Pues, yo friego el suelo cada dos semanas, paso la aspiradora y plancho la ropa. No friego los platos porque tengo un lavavajillas – Well, I mop the floor every two weeks, I hoover and I iron. I don’t do the washing up because I have a dishwashwer.

To finish the class, we did the listening on page 11. Some words we did not understand:
Yo ayudo en lo que puedo – I help as as much as I can
Ayudo a mis nietos con sus deberes – I help my grandchildren with their homework
Preparo las verduras – I prepare the vegetables
A decir verdad – to tell you the truth, to be honest
Reparo las cosas que se rompen en casa – I repair the things that break in the house
Decoro la casa un poco – I decorate the house a bit
Ordenar la casa – To tidy the house
Y hago de canguro – I babysit

Other words we did not understand:
Estar asustado – To be scared
Tener miedo – To be afraid
¿Has ido a…? – Have you been to…?
Basura – rubbish
Noche de brujas / Halloween
Los cacharros – the dishes
Los tazones – the bowls
Las tazas – the cups
La jarra – the jug
Los vasos – the glasses
El cazo – the saucepan
Las copas – the glasses (for wine)
Los cubiertos – the cutlery
Sartén – frying pan
Es un timo – It is a con
