INTERMEDIATE COURSE, 2017, CLASS 4

We began the class by talking about how we had changed. We used the Imperfect for the past situation (yo era, yo tenía, yo trabajaba etc...) and the Presente for describing how we are now.

We then looked at Ser and Estar. Normally we use Ser for descriptions and Estar for emotions and temporary states.

We can also use Estar for describing people in certain circumstances. For example, if someone gets dressed up for a party, we can say to the person
"estás muy guapo" or
"estás muy guapa".
This is describing how they look at that moment - a temporary description.

We can also use Estar for changes - for example, if a child is growing up fast, we can say to them "estás muy alto" or "estás muy alta".

We did the exercise on p.8 for practice
- Juan es muy tranquilo (nunca se enfada) pero hoy está muy nervioso porque tiene exámenes.

We also completed some sentences with Ser and Estar
Juan es alegre: siempre está de buen humor.
Juan está alegre hoy porque va a una fiesta.
