This week we talked about superstitions
Las supersticiones
Abrir un paraguas – To open an umbrella
Ver un gato negro – To see a black cat
El número trece – Number 13
Dejar caer la sal – to spill the salt
Romper un espejo – To break a mirror
Pasar por debajo de una escalera – To walk under a ladder
Un trébol de cuatro hojas – A shamrock
Una herradura – a horse shoe

We learnt the basic conditionals
Si + verbo en presente + ir a + verbo en infinitive
Si abro un paraguas dentro de casa, voy a tener mala suerte. – If I open an umbrella inside the house, I am going to have bad luck.
Si dejo caer la sal, voy a tener siete años de mala suerte. – If I spill the salt, I am going to have seven years of bad luck.
Si veo un gato negro, voy a tener mala suerte – If I see a black cat, I am going to have bad luck.
Si rompo un espejo, voy a tener mala suerte – If I break a mirror…
Si paso por debajo de una escalera, no me voy a casar. – If I pass under a ladder, I am not going to get married.
Si encuentro un trébol de cuatro hojas, voy a tener buena suerte – If I find a shamrock, I am going to have good luck.

In pairs, we practised the questions on page 16.
¿Qué planes tienes para este fin de semana? – What are your plans for the weekend?
Voy a ir al cine con mis amigos – I am going to the cinema with my friends
¿Qué planes tienes para navidad? – What are your plans for Christmas?
Voy a viajar a casa de mis padres y voy a cenar allí – I am going to travel to my parents’ house and I am going to have dinner there.
¿Qué planes tienes para el año que viene? – What are your plans for next year?
Voy a estudiar idiomas – I am going to study languages
¿Qué planes tienes para esta noche? – What are your plans for tonight?
Voy a visitar a mis amigos irlandeses – I am going to visit my Irish friends.

We listened to four different extracts and we answered the questions.
1.¿Qué no le gusta hacer a esta persona? – What does the person not like to do?
2.¿Qué color no le gusta a la tía? – What colour does she not like?
3.¿Qué no le gusta ver a la madre de esta persona? – What does the mother of this person not like to see?
4.Hay dos cosas que a la abuela de esta persona no le gusta ver. ¿Cuáles son? – There are two things that the grandmother of this person does not like to see. What are they?

Some word from the dialogue we did not understand:
Especialmente cuando es un martes – Specially when it’s Tuesday
Por eso, no hay nada en su casa de color Amarillo – Therefore, there is nothing yellow in her house.
Y nunca compra vestidos amarillos – And she never buys yellow dresses
Otra cosa, por las mañanas siempre se levanta con el pie derecho – Another thing, in the mornings, she always gets up on the right foot.
Dice que si se le posa una mosca en la nariz, recibirá una carta – She says that if a fly lands on her nose, she will receive a letter.
A mi abuela hay dos cosas que no le gusta ver – There are two things my grandmother doesn’t like to see
Un sombrero sobre la cama – a hat on the bed
Y un paraguas abierto dentro de la casa – and an open umbrella inside the house.

Other superstitions
En España si te pica la mano izquierda, vas a tener una pelea con alguien – In Spain, if you left hand is itchy, you are going to have a fight with somebody.
En Venezuela, si no llevas ropa interior de color Amarillo en año nuevo, no vas a tener buena suerte – In Venezuela, if you are not wearing yellow underwear in New Year, you are not going to have good luck.

Other words that came up during the class and we did not understand:
Urraca – magpie
Cuervo – crow
Voy a limpiar la sal – I am going to clean the salt
