PRE-INTERMEDIATE COURSE, SPRING 2016, CLASS 6


In this class we revised some of the vocab that came up in the previous class when we talked about Spanish art.

Mariposas – butterflies
Hojas – leaves
Un picaflor – a hummingbird
Espinas – thorns
El simbolismo – symbolism
Un mono – a monkey
Una uniceja – a unibrow
Fusilar/ejecutar – to execute
Fusiles – rifles
La sangre – blood
En llamas – in flames
Las armas - weapons
El miedo – fear
Un enano – a dwarf
Mostrar – to show (muestro, muestras, muestra….)

En el fondo – in the background
En primer plano – in the foreground
Me gusta la organización de las formas – I like the way the shapes are organized

We discussed some other paintings, some vocab that came up
Una pesadilla – a nightmare
El Grito – The Scream
Rico – rich
Pobre – poor
Escoger – to choose
La puesta del sol – the sunset
La salida del sol – the sunrise
El sol se pone a las…. – the sun sets at….
El sol sale – the sun rises
Lirios – lillies
La perspectiva – perspective

We then went on to talk about jokes
Los chistes – jokes
We discussed los chistes de Lepe, jokes about stupid people from the town of Lepe
Un juego de palabras – a play on words
Un armario – a wardrobe
Una pista – a runway
La mudanza – moving house
Las perchas – clothes hangers
Sujetar – to hold
Migas de pan – breadcrumbs
Borroso – blurry
La taquilla – the ticket office
El relleno – stuffing
Esperar – to wait
Doblar – to fold
Romper – to tear

For homework we had to connect the jokes with their punchlines on p.15
