PRE INTERMEDIATE 2 COURSE, SPRING 2016, CLASS 8

PRE INTERMEDIATE COURSE, SPRING 2016, CLASS 8
We continued looking at past tenses this week.
We revised the pretérito and the endings for this tense
AR verbs – hablé, hablaste, habló, hablamos, hablasteis, hablaron
IR/ER verbs – comí, comiste, comió, comimos, comisteis, comieron

Some irregular verbs…
Andar – anduve, anduviste, anduvo, anduvimos, anduvisteis, anduvieron.
Decir – dije, dijiste, dijo……

We then revised the Imperfect tense
AR verbs – trabajaba, trabajabas, trabajaba, ……
IR/ER verbs – comía, comías, comía….
Irregulars – Ser – era, eras era….
Ir – iba, ibas, iba….
Ver – veía, veías, veía…..

This is used for talking about repeated actions in the past, often translating “used to”.
Comía mucho chocolate cuando era joven

It is also used to express what was happening at a particular point in time
Yo cenaba cuando mi amigo me llamó. – I was having dinner when my friend rang.

To distinguish between Imperfect and preterite we had an example
En el pasado iba mucho a España de vacaciones – In the past I went to Spain a lot on holidays
El año pasado fui a España de vacaciones – last year I went to Spain on holidays

We watched this video and did an exercise, using verbs in Imperfect and Preterite to complete the story of Jason and Stacey
https://youtu.be/uy0HNWto0UY

Jason se levantaba todos los días….. tenía una vida triste. Se sentía muy solo. (extended period of time, repeated actions, all imperfect)

Un día, su vida cambió. (one day, one-off action, preterite)
