PRE-INTERMEDIATE COURSE, 2016, CLASS 7
We began by revising how to speak about a past situation that is no longer true
Trabajaba – I used to work
Vivía – I used to live…

This is the Imperfect tense, and we use it for past situations or for repeated actions in the past.
En el pasado en Irlanda, no había tantos coches – there weren’t as many cars
…..no había tanta obesidad – there wasn’t as much obesity
……no había tanto dinero – there wasn’t as much money
La gente era más obesa – people were more obese

To form the Imperfect, we add … aba, abas, aba….etc to AR verbs…. And
                                                            Ía, ías, ía….. to IR/ER verbs.
Ser, IR and VER are irregular
Ser – era, eras, era, éramos, erais, eran
Ir – iba, ibas, iba, íbamos, ibais, iban
Ver – Veía, veías, veía, veíamos, veíais, veían

We listened to someone talking about her life past and present
Odio – I hate
Entonces – back then

We then went on to learn the words for some objects

Un sacacorchos – a corkscrew
Un estuche – a case
Un abrelatas – a tin-opener
Unas tijeras - scissors
Una llave – a key
Una lata – a tin
Una huevera – an eggcup
Un cortaúñas – a nail-clippers
Un mando a distancia – a remote-control
Una pajita – a straw
Una caja – a box
Una vela – a candle
Una pila – a battery
Un móvil – a mobile
Un tenedor – a fork
Una cuchara – a spoon
Un boli – a pen
Una regla – a ruler

We then talked a little about “material”, what things are made of..
Cera – wax
Carton – cardboard
Metal
