PRE-INTERMEDIATE COURSE, 2016, CLASS 5

We began by revising some expressions for tasks in the home…

All verbs are regular unless stated…..
Sacar la basura
Cortar el césped
Poner la mesa (irregular – Pongo, pones, pone…)
Quitar la mesa
Fregar el suelo (irreg… - friego, friegas, friega….)
Limpiar la cocina

We also discussed which tasks we enjoy and which we don’t
Me encanta pasar la aspirador porque es muy relajante
Odio planchar – I hate ironing
No me gusta sacar la basura, es un fastidio – it is a nuisance, a bother, an annoyance
Molestar = fastidiar – to annoy

We also discussed if men and women share the household chores
Compartir – to share
Los hombres y las mujeres comparten las tareas
Estoy de acuerdo – I agree
No estoy nada de acuerdo – I don’t agree at all
Tienes razón – you are right
Estás equivocado/a – you are wrong
Desde mi punto de vista – from my point of view

We then moved on to talking about past situations that are no longer true
Ya no – not any longer

For this we use the Imperfect tense
AR verbs – yo hablaba, tú hablabas, él/ella hablaba, nosotros hablábamos, vosotros hablabais, ellos hablaban.
IR/ER verbs – yo comía, tú comías, él/ella comía, nosotros comíamos, vosotros comíais, ellos comían.
There are two irregular verbs
IR – iba, ibas, iba, íbamos, ibais, iban
Ser – Era, eras, era, éramos, erais, eran.

We use this tense to translate the English idea “used to”
Trabajaba en Dublin, pero ya no – I used to work in Dublin but not any more.
Comía muchos bombones, pero ya no – I used to eat a lot of sweets, but not any more.

We talked about what we used to do as kids
Comía muchos bombones
Jugaba con muñecas – I used to play with dolls
Jugaba con mis juguetes – I used to play with toys
vivía en el campo – I used to live in the country
jugaba a Vaqueros y Indios – I used to play cowboys and Indians.

There are some exercises here for practice of the Imperfect. The first two pages are to be done for homework.
