ELEMENTARY COURSE 2016, CLASS 5


In this class we began by learning some words for emotions – we used the verb Estar

Está triste – he/she is sad
Está preocupado/a – he/she is worried
Está aburrido/a – he/she is bored
Está contento/a – he/she is happy
Está enfermo/a – he/she is sick
Está estresado/a – he/she is stressed
Está enfadado/a – he/she is angry, annoyed
Está enamorado/a – he/she is in love
Está relajado/a – he/she is relaxed
Están contentos – they are happy

We also looked at the verb Estar
Yo estoy                                 Nosotros estamos
Tú estás                                 Vosotros estáis
Él/ella/usted está                Ellos están

We then looked at temporary states, which we also always need Estar to express
Está embarazada – she is pregnant
Está sucio/a – it/he/she is dirty
Está limpio/a – it/he/she is clean
Está desordenado/a – it is messy
Está ordenado – it is tidy

We then looked at some emotions which need the verb Tener
Tiene sueño – he/she is sleepy (literally “he/she has sleepiness)
Tiene miedo – he/she is afraid (lit. “he/she has fear”)
Tiene hambre – he/she is hungry (lit. “he/she has hunger”)
Tiene sed – he/she is thirsty (lit. “he/she has thirst”)
Tiene calor – he/she is hot (lit. “he/she has heat”)
Tiene frío –  he/she is cold (lit. “he/she has cold”)

We also practiced a conversation involving giving our opinion…
Pienso que – I think that…
No estoy de acuerdo – I don’t agree
Estoy de acuerdo – I agree
