BEGINNERS COURSE, AUTUMN 2015, CLASS 9

This week we learnt different words and phrases to talk about the weather – EL TIEMPO.

¿Qué tiempo hace? – What’s the weather like?
Hace frío – It is cold
Hace calor – It is warm
Hace viento – It is windy
Hace sol – It is sunny
Hay nieve – It is snowy
Está lloviendo – It is rainy / It is raining
Hay cielos despejados / Está claro – There are clear skies
Está nublado – It is cloudy
¿Qué tiempo hace en este momento / ahora / ahora mismo? – What’s the weather like in this momento / now / right now?
We also learnt the seasons of the year. – Las estaciones del año
Verano – Summer
Primavera – Spring
Otoño – Autumn
Invierno – Winter *

*In Spanish, we do not write the seasons with capital letters, but in lower case.

We learnt the cardinal points in Spanish…
Los puntos cardinales
Norte – North
Sur – South
Este – East
Oeste – West

… and also the months of the year:
Los meses del año
Enero – January
Febrero – February
Marzo – March
Abril – April
Mayo – May
Junio – June
Julio – July
Agosto – August
Septiembre – September
Noviembre – November
Diciembre – December *
*In Spanish, we do not write the months of the year in capital letters either. In fact, if we do it, it is considered a grammatical mistake.
We listened to a woman telling us the weather forecast.
El pronóstico meteorológico para hoy, domingo 16 de junio – The weather forecast for today, Sunday, 16th June.
En el sur de España hará buen tiempo con cielos despejados y temperaturas muy altas – In the South of Spain, there will be a good weather with clear skies and very high temperatures.
En el norte del país habrá lluvia con vientos fuertes – In the North of the country there will be rain with strong winds
Con temperaturas máximas de 18 grados y mínimas de 10 grados – Maximum temperatures of 18 degrees and mínimum temperatures of 10 degrees.
We also did a listening exercise about a woman talking about the weather in Galicia
El tiempo en Galicia:
Cielos muy nubosos con chubascos débiles – Very cloudy skies with very little rain.
Tormentas en las zonas de montaña y en el interior – Storms in the mountains and in the centre of the area.
Nieblas persistentes en la costa – Uninterrupted on the coast
Vientos del noroeste – Wind from the Northwest
Temperaturas máximas 17 grados y mínimas de 12 grados – Maximum temperatures 17 degrees and minimum ones 12 degrees.

To wrap up our lesson, we learnt how to ask our birthday.
¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños? – When is your birthday?

Mi cumpleaños es el ocho de julio – My birthday is the 8th July
