LEAVING CERT PREP COURSE, SPRING 2015, CLASS 4

We began by revising the text from last week, on p. 27, and focusing on paragraphs 2 and 3 and the vocab there....

los rehenes - hostages
entablar comunicación - to establish communication
el secuestrador - the kidnapper
exigir - the demand
la entrega - the handover
darse cuenta - to realize
maniobrar - to manoeuvre
abrumado - overwhelmed
agotarse - to run out

 (a) Todos sabían que existía la posibilidad de que tuviera un final que nadie deseaba.
(paragraph 1)
Everyone knew that there existed the possibility that it would end in a way that no-one wanted.

 (b) Si me dejas que maniobre un poco, te puedo conseguir un millón. (paragraph 3)
If you let me manoeuvre a little, I can get you a million.

Some useful vocab....
Un ladrón - a thief
aprovechar - to take advantage of
una pulsera - a bracelet
un pendiente - an earring

We then moved on to the Perfect tense on p.9. This tense is used to translate the English tense.... I have been to Spain many times, He has never eaten veal, We have already finished.
We form it with
1). the verb Haber
he, has, ha, hemos, habeis, han

2). the past participle
AR verbs - add "ado" - trabajado, hablado
IR verbs - add "ido" - comido, vivido etc..
There are some irregulars...
Abrir - abierto, volver - vuelto, hacer - hecho, decir - dicho
I have never been to Spain -  Nunca he estado en España
We have done our homework - hemos hecho nuestros deberes
Juan has worked a lot today - Juan ha trabajado mucho hoy.

We then went on to the dialogue on p.13 and did the first two paragraphs. The rest is for homework....This is a dialogue with all tenses....

¿Qué vas a hacer hoy?
Say that you are going to look for your mobile. Yesterday you were in the bank when you realized that you didn’t have it anymore. You think you lost it in the shopping centre. You were there yesterday morning.
Voy a buscar mi móbil. Ayer, estaba en el banco cuando me di cuenta de que ya no lo tenía. Pienso que lo perdí en el centro comercial. Estuve ahí ayer por la mañana.

¿Dónde lo perdiste?.
Say that you don't know. You are really annoyed, you never lose things. You need to ring your sister, she is studying for her Junior cert at the moment and you want to give her some advice. She is going to be very nervous during her exams.
No sé. Estoy muy molesto/a porque nunca pierdo cosas. Necesito llamar a mi hermana, está estudiando para su Junior Cert en este momento y quiero darle cosejo. Va a estar muy nerviosa durante los examenes.
