INTERMEDIATE COURSE, AUTUMN 2014, CLASS 5

This week we kept working on the differences between imperfect – Pretérito imperfect-  and simple past – Pretérito indefinido.
Based on a picture we had, we created sentences using pretérito imperfect plus gerund.

¿Qué hacía Manuel cuando empezó el incendio? – What was Manuel doing when the fire started?
Manuel estaba hablando por teléfono. – Manuel was talking on the pone
Chufi estaba durmiendo – Chufi was sleeping
Ana estaba fregando los platos – Ana was doing the dishes
Juanito estaba viendo la televisión – Juanito was watching TV
Rafael estaba leyendo un libro – Rafael was reading a book
Carlitos estaba haciendo los deberes – Carlitos was doing his homework
Isabel estaba escuchando música – Isabel was listening to the music
Pedro estaba durmiendo – Pedro was sleeping

In the second part of the lesson, we worked on a listening about a story that a girl tells.
1.¿Cuándo ocurrió? El mes pasado – When did that happen? Last month
2.¿Cuáles eran las circunstancias? María Jesús estaba tomando el fresco – What were the circumstances? María Jesús was getting some fresh air
3.¿Qué ocurrió? Un chico saltó por el balcón de sus vecinos – What happened? A boy jumped from her neighbours´window.
4.¿Cómo terminó? Ella llamó a la policía – How did the story end? She rang the police.
5.Añade otros detalles. El chico llevaba Tejanos (vaqueros) y una camiseta – The boy was wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

1.¿Dónde iban Mari Mar y sus amigos? Iban a una boda – Where did Mari Mar and her friends go? They were going to a wedding
2.Casi tuvieron un accidente. ¿Por qué? Casi chocan con un coche que iba en dirección contraria – They almost had an accident. Why? They almost crashed with another car which was going on the opposite direction.
3.¿Qué hizo el señor del otro coche? Les amenazó con un hacha – What did the man who was in the other car? They were threatened by an ax.
4.¿Dónde tenían que estar a las nueve? Tenían que estar en una boda. – Where did they have to be by 9? They had to be at a wedding
5.¿Dónde estaban a las nueve? Estaban en la comisaría – Where were they at 9? They were in the police station
6.¿Qué hicieron sus amigos en la boda? Ellos pararon la boda – What did their friends do? They stopped the wedding.

Some words we did not understand:
Ir en dirección prohibida – To go on the opposite direction
Por supuesto – Of course
Llevar un susto – To have a fright
Debido a este conflicto – Due to this fight
Hasta que llegamos – until we arrived
El señor no iba en muy buenas condiciones – They man was not ok (he might have been drunk)
El acontecimiento – the event
