In our second lesson, we talked about holidays: Las vacaciones.

handout here

To warm up, we came up with three reasons why we like the mountains and why we like the beach. Some of the answers were:
Me gusta la playa porque puedo tomar el sol – I like the beach because I can sunbathe
Me gusta la montaña porque me gusta escalar – I like the mountains because I like climbing
Me gusta la playa porque me gusta nadar en el mar – I like the beach because i like swimming in the sea
Me gusta la montaña porque no me gusta el calor – I like the mountains because I don’t like heat

We also talked about the Canary Islands and we worked on the Imperative form. We read the first four articles and we commented on them.

Some vocabulary we did not understand:
Un entorno tranquilo – A quiet spot
Frondosos bosques – dense, thick forests

No hay duda de que vivirás momentos divertidos – There’s no doubt that you’ll live funny moments

In pairs, we spotted the imperative forms in the text:
Visita esta maravillosa isla – Visit this wonderful island
Descubre su gran riqueza natural – Discover its natural richness
¡No te lo pierdas! – Don’t miss it!
Atrévete a caminar – Dare to walk
Descubre los sorprendentes paisajes volcánicos – Discover the amazing volcanic landscapes

To finish with, in pairs, we worked on a speaking activity which consisted on one member of the couple acting as a tourist guide and the other member of the couple acting as a tourist that has just arrived in the Canary Islands and needs some advice on what places they can do there (by using the imperative forms that we had just learnt).
